October 21, 2019 (Kingsville, TX) – The Texas A&M University-Kingsville Foundation gratefully accepted a $100,000 grant from the American Electric Power Foundation in support of the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

This grant highlights a longstanding relationship between AEP and Texas A&M-Kingsville, with many graduates of the College of Engineering earning prominent careers within the company. This positive relationship has impacted more than students of the university, but the entire region of South Texas.

“This generous gift from the AEP Foundation to the College of Engineering will help enhance and expand the lab space to support our 21-degree programs while meeting the critical academic and research needs of our students and faculty,” stated Dr. Mohammad Alam, Dean of the College of Engineering. Being a core academic program within the university since 1936, the College of Engineering currently embraces almost a third of the student population at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The enhanced facilities will help provide necessary resources for the college as it continues to increase in its enrollment and university impact.

“The AEP Foundation grant will allow our engineering faculty to continue their pursuit of excellence in research, teaching and service while providing our students with new high impact educational and leadership experiences,” stated Dr. Mark A. Hussey, President of Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

The American Electric Power Foundation is funded by American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) and its utility operating units, including AEP Texas. The Foundation provides a permanent, ongoing resource for charitable initiatives involving higher dollar values and multi-year commitments in the communities served by AEP and initiatives outside of AEP’s 11-state service area. The Foundation focuses on improving lives through education from early childhood through higher education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math and by meeting basic needs for emergency shelter, affordable housing and the elimination of hunger. Other foundation support may be offered to protect the environment, support healthcare and safety, and enrich life through art, music and cultural heritage.
