| Through the Dr. Richard Miller Memorial Scholarship, your contributions will support students pursuing a degree in psychology. Thank you for contributing to Dr. Miller's legacy.   Richard (Rick) Miller was born in Houston, Texas where he was raised by his maternal grandparents who instilled in him at an early age their love of music and history. Rick left Texas to attend Weber State College, where he studied psychology, anthropology and sociology. During his introductory psychology class he met professor, Gary Carson, who became a life long mentor. It was through Carson's class that Rick discovered his passion for psychology. Upon completing his bachelor's degree he spent the next period of his life flying airplanes for the U.S. Navy. Toward the end of his tour of duty, he visited Northwestern University and eventually pursued and completed his graduate work there. Rick began working at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2014 as chair of the Department of Psychology and Sociology. Throughout his career he was the recipient of numerous awards for his work and research, including, the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Alumni Association Distinguished Scholarship Award, the Piper Professor Award and, the CASE U.S. Professor of the Year Award, and the Charles L. Brewer Award for Distinguished Teaching of Psychology.    Aside from his professional career, Rick was so much more.
